Debian Leaders: We Need to Release More Often

daria42 writes "The lack of a new stable release of Debian GNU/Linux since July 2002 is fuelling the campaigns of many candidates for the project's Debian Project Leader role, with many pushing for a shorter and more stable release cycle to stop Linux users heading for greener and more updated pastures."

Good old Debian stable mighty be a safe bet for organisations wishing to avoid being targetted by lawsuits.

As we all know, Linux 2.6 is rife with stolen SCO code (milions of lines according to certain estimates). This may also be true for 2.4, but to a lesser extent. It's still being looked at AFAIK.

Frankly, only a complete idiot would try to run a business on Debian. There's no commercial responsability and no commercial support. None, zero, zilch. If something goes wrong, there's noone to complain to or get compensation from. Debian is great for hobbyists, but for gawd's sake, STOP TRYING TO RUN BUSINESSES ON DEBIAN!

Buy Redhat/Mandrake/SuSE and you can buy a support contract to go with it, there's a pretty good chance that your vendor's linux drivers will work on it.

What happens when you get Debian installed on all your servers and desktops, and then your boss announces he wants to plug in XYZ hardware and use ABC software on it, and you have to tell him that the linux distro YOU pushed, doesn't support it?
