Your Rights Online: Privacy Violation in Italian Media Giant

orzetto writes "Italian newspaper La Repubblica is reporting that Silvio Berlusconi's company, Mediaset (that owns three of the six main TV stations in Italy), has been tagging employees with Rfid chips since last December (for English version, ask the fish). The chips would allegedly be able to track the movements of any worker, even if Mediaset spokesmen say it's only to automatically open some doors to authorized personnel only and such things. Trade unionists from CGIL have reported the company's behaviour to the authorities, as it would be in violation of the Italian workers' charter (again, fish). This would probably be small news (yet another bad employer) if Silvio Berlusconi were not the Italian Prime Minister, violating the same laws he should enforce."

Star Wars Holiday Special Released on DVD
Star Wars Prequels

from the bringing-back-an-old-friend dept.
Crow T. Trollbot writes "LucasFilm has finally released the long-delayed and never-awaited Star Wars Holiday Special (aka A Very Wookiee Christmas) on a special "Platinum Edition" DVD. Long maligned as the worst project ever associated with the Star Wars universe, the LucasFilm DVD includes all the original special (complete with Bea Arthur, Art Carney, Harvey Korman, and The Jefferson Starship), plus a short documentary, The Highway to Life Day: My Search for the Star Wars Holiday Special. The reviewer isn't impressed. "If you want to hang onto any fond childhood memories George Lucas hasn't already managed to destroy, avoid The Star Wars Holiday Special like the Crimson Plague.""

Science: Apollo Bacteria Destroying the Moon
Moon
Posted by Zonk in The Mysterious Future!
from the war-of-the-worlds dept.
Rob Carr writes "According to the online version of the journal Nature, the moon is being rapidly destroyed by bacteria left behind during the Apollo missions. According to the article: 'There really is less Moon up there than there used to be. If the process continues, he adds, the Moon could eventually crumble away to nothing. Researchers are not yet certain what is causing the erosion. Kawalkowizc suggests that bacteria left behind by the Apollo Moon landings of the 1960s and 1970s may be responsible.' Satellite images show cracks in the moon - the image in the article shows the amazing amount of devastation. The Moon is slowly outgassing and will be destroyed in our lifetime. Speculation is that the ultraviolet radiation mutated the bacteria into it's present ravenous and destructive form. The article does not deal with several important topics. Will a ring system form around Earth? Will this bacteria destroy satellites and quarantine humanity to Earth? Can this bacteria survive entry into Earth's atmosphere, dooming our planet as well?"
