FFXI No Longer Playable on PS2

Via Final Fantasy Online: Warcry, a link to the official FFXI site stating that starting on May 1st PS2 service will be withdrawn. Playstation 2 players will no longer be able to access the Square-Enix title, as according to the site: "The limitation of the Playstation 2 has restricted and held back certain developments to the game and its continued support would make future updates and content limited." Update: 04/02 18:02 GMT by Z : April 1st hoax story.

    Anyone else think it may be a poor choice to have the JavaScript popup as the punchline to this "April Fools" joke? Handheld browsers may not display it. Possibly IE users with high security settings won't see it. And some Firefox users that are paranoid won't. Not to mention the rest of the population that automatically close anything that pops up automatically... I would understand if there's a huge uprising because of that.

    That's what it's for. April Fool's is a time for every website in the known universe to go nuts. Slashdot is like a big directory for them. I rather enjoy it myself.
