Chinese Huawei Takes on U.S. Telecom Market

ChipGuy writes "With funds on loan from the Chinese government, Chinese equipment giant, Huawei is undercutting big rivals like Cisco and Nortel, and is using money to buy its way into the U.S. market. Overseas in Europe and Asia it already has become a major force. There are parallels with auto industry and home appliances. It took a little while before prices became a determining factor and shifted growth away from North American vendors. Telecom will go through the same curve. Huawei is curently selling EVDO phones for about $130 and WCDMA phones about $250 which is about 30% than everyone else on the market. Huawei's agenda is pretty clear - get business and sales at any cost. And that means bad news for already struggling telecom industry."

    a) violating the WTO rules currently.

Agree 100%. If the U.S. propped up Detroit automakers and allowed them to sell their cars in foreign markets at below cost in order to steal market share, you'd have the EU and China up in arms about it. Why is it that when China does the same thing it gets a green light by the world? Not to mention tying their currency to the dollar so that cheap chinese goods can always undercut US made goods in the stores.

I hope our next regime^H^H^H^H^H^Hadministration will have the balls to wean us off of foreign money by reducing the deficit. While they're at it, it wouldn't hurt to reduce our dependency on foreign energy...

Thankfully she didn't kill him like Vince Foster who was performing Cunnilingus on her when she shot him.

Actually, the parent should be "flamebait", and it's blatent. He says it's copies of Ericsson (so what, at Slashdot, Technology must be free, so who cares if it's ripped?), and than suggests it's poop copies. But the truth is that Huawei produces IDENTICAL equipment (and sorry, cell phones ARE more or less disposible now anyway). Get off your anti-Chinese bias.

So how much is Iraq still costing? Something like $200 billion a year now? Of course if you're a Bushie, it's all just abstract numbers. It's not even in the budget. Hey, we can borrow it from China, and let the next generation or two worry about it!
