IPTV Revolution Put on Hold

prostoalex writes "Business Week says the IPTV revolution might be postponed. As telecoms are launching the new service, they are facing the problem of lack of content: "But improvements like these can happen only if content providers - media companies and movie studios like Disney - play along. So far, it seems, they're not. Disney didn't return calls from BusinessWeek Online seeking comment, and it hasn't signed with any outside distributor to provide its movies for video-on-demand. Most studios have agreed to only limited video-on-demand distribution, fearing it could cut into revenues from rentals and DVD sales - now generating bigger income streams than the box office itself." The solution just might be buying out content companies, like Mark Cuban does. In the retrospect the Comcast bid for Disney and AOL buying Time Warner start making sense."

  1. And the Bush Crime Family rejoices! by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Did you hear what Bush Jr. had to say a couple of weeks ago about TV via IP? I've never heard him quite that hateful except when talking about how he wants to kill all of the Muslims. If that family has anything to do with it, we not only won't have TVIP, we'll be put in jail for discussing it. There might already be people in jail now for this "crime," but we have no way of knowing since the Bush Crime Family can have anyone arrested now without cause and make it illegal to discuss not only the charges, but the very fact that the charges exist! I'd be careful posting under my real account if I was going to post something positive about this subject. Be careful out there.

Apparently, there are many that frequent Slashdot already living in basements - that'd make the daily commute pretty short, I'd imagine.

You must be new here... welcome to Slashdot.

The first rule of Slashdot is: Information wants to be free, as in beer, preferably in BitTorrent form from multiple high-bandwidth sites. You see, it's all just a collection of ones and zeroes, so how can anyone justify charging anything for it?

If anyone even attempted to profit from this in any way, just about everyone here would bitch and moan about it, and call them evil and greedy.

After all, we have a RIGHT to be entertained, dammit. And, we should be able to dictate how much we pay for that entertainment, and decide after being entertained whether or not it was worth paying for, because most of it is crap, and why would anyone want to pay for crap?

And besides, the huge, greedy multimedia corporations already have enough money, they don't pay the artists enough and they should just give it to us for free.

Whoops, did I say that out loud?!?
