CherryOS Goes Open Source

netsniper writes "The CherryOS website now acknowledges a forthcoming alliance with Open Source Software! After going 'on hold' recently, a re-release of CherryOS is purported to be coming in May according to the site. This is great news on the surface, but let's see how it pans out. This move is probably a result of the many reviews of their product that set out to prove it was bogus."

    Could some ambiguities in their project cause another licenseing SNAFU? It appears that only part of the code will be released.

    I don't see the big deal here ... ok, it's technically illegal, but it's not *stealing*. The PearPC still have their code, it's not like CherryOS people went in and stole it off the shelves like CDs.

    I hope this technique of exploiting OSS does become very popular.

    This way the developers who like to work for free (and in so doing harm other developers who want to work for pay) will quit and go away.

    Copyright infringement cheats hardworking, creative individuals out of the compensation they deserve and upon which their families depend for food, clothing and shelter. You apologists for criminal behavior can invent whatever glib terms you like to evade responsibility for piracy's ill effects on society, but the fact remains that intellectual property theft is STEALING.
