Classic Games Art Gallery
wanker256 writes "If you were intrigued by the 4-story Pixellated Mario Mural, then here is an art gallery that you will be sure to enjoy. On April 19th through May 20th, the iam8-bit exhibit will be present the talents of over 100 of the world's top artists who have put their fond gaming memories to paper, canvas, wood, or somewhere in between. So if you ever wanted to analyze the crazed image of a Burger Time sausage gone ballistic or Space Invader doing disco, this is the art gallery to attend."
Apparently the event will be hosted by Geraldo (aka Rico Suave. Remember him?)
:)
It's an all-Flash site. Sigh.
But, on a lighter note, it mentions the bar being tended by the Suicide Girls

To me good pop art should be as faithful to the subject as possible with only the limitations of the media.
When I say "Campbell's Soup", I shouldn't have to explain what the can looks like or how I changed it - you should already have an instant idea of the can in your head, and the art should come as close as possible to representing that can.
It's too bad that everyone I've seen so far try to use games as a theme in their art - do just that. Use it as a theme. I could never quickly describe what they did and know that you'd ever have a clear picture of what they rendered, because all of them have strayed from the source and created a mere caracature.
Instead of comic book art, I'd love to see our pasttime taken seriously.

8-bit shows were so already done. Perth, Western Australia, 1998. Enschede, Netherlands, 1999, 2001, 2004.
Good to see someone's cashing in on this phenomenon late, in Melrose...

Keep your eyes to the sky.
Are those so-called "Suicide Girls" still around? You'd think they'd have gotten on with it already.
