Preview of New Games at E3 2005
Joystiq (once again answering my hailing frequencies) has up a preview of some of the new titles that will be seeing the light of day at this year's e3. A smattering of some of the games: "The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, D&D Online, UFO: Aftershock, Battlefield 2, Black and White 2, The Sims 2: Nightlife, Guild Wars, Metroid Prime Hunters, Shadow the Hedgehog, Destroy All Humans" This year we're going to have an E3 topic for your browsing convenience.
However if you consider, for example, Elder Scrolls series (both current Morrowind and future Oblivion) - PC gives you pretty much free pass for whatever modding you want. Just look at what Morrowind's mods have done to the game when it comes to graphics (both textures and models), gameplay (AI and additional functions like meaningful combat combos, etc) and environment (sounds, towns brought to life with scripted NPCs, etc). Plus 5-6 good content mods. Something you will not achieve on console for a long time (if ever).
The sad thing is that I think these games will get underrepresented because of the new hardware and their respective next-gen games. This is a shame, because as recent releases clearly show developers are finally getting a handle on the systems, moving beyond pretty graphics, and really putting out some great stuff.
This is actually the best time to own an Xbox, PS2, or Gamecube. They're cheap - they'll probably drop again this fall to compete - and the software is now top-notch.
