Gordon Moore: Moore's Law is Dead

Golygydd Max writes "Moore's Law will not hold forever, claims Gordon Moore. In a Techworld article, he points out the limitations of the law, in particular, the limitations as we approach the size of atoms. He helpfully explains, however, that the law will hold for a few years yet." Still, sticking around for forty years is pretty impressive.

Wha'd you guys think about modified electrical engines replacing shafts (in concert with fuel cells and plain old gasoline) on vehicles. Basicly just a hollowed out cylinder (probably synthetic) with a conducting material seeded (properly organized, of course) and the armature/commutator located within the shaft (perhaps drop the idea of brushes for a zero contact electrical transmission) (microwaves-requires tech) (material is seeded with transistor like pathways that allow for different organizations for desired use). Located over a much wider surface area the engines should provide a considerable amount of torqe (handy for acceleration).

Storing electricity sucks unless you go modified steam (or high temperature water +2000, after eight or so water starts to do some funny stuff).

What about modified automatic transmissions that include the braking/stopping of the vehicle (Probably the easiest way to get back that energy from the moving vehicle). A second transmission exclusively dedicated to slowing/stopping the vehicle and generating the power to be stored (always liked ski-doo transmissions, simple and the potential for very high efficiency). The braking system shouldn't eat up more then 40 lbs and has the potential of being just under a cubic foot in size.

If any of the crap is useful to anybody, I'd like to see IBM get it.

Has anybody heard of a car cd-player cd-rom?

The laws work perfectly fine. The problem is in a post 9/11 world (no meme here) people don't care for laws or even common sense.

Giving a robot a shotgun and having it controled by a guy a few miles away is fine, but we're moving into sentinent robots with weapons which is where the laws MUST be enforced. These kind of things shouldn't even be around let alone be used to kill people.

Just wait untill robots become mainstream (for cleaning and other basic maintences) and we see the first one of these go nuts and start to shoot at a few cops (and unlike people these will be pinpoint accurate with EVERY shot and unless you have full body armour able to resist an assault rifle at point black range you're going to some pearly gates). We'll soon see these laws are something we MUST listen to and not become idiots with more weapons than sense.

What is this? Timster's Law or so?
Anyway, it isn't complete. According to Zorbas' Law, any post mentioning moderation in general gets modded up.

Pssst: look, I mentioned moderation in general (hint, hint...)
