Final Fantasy XI Suffers DDOS Attacks
_xeno_ writes "Final Fantasy XI is currently under a DDOS attack from unknown parties. No additional information is really available, but Square-Enix has contacted "[l]aw enforcement authorities in Japan, the United States, and Europe." The attacks started on April 9th and are evidently ongoing, causing server downtime, preventing people from logging in to the game, and causing extra latency. No word has been made on the exact nature of the attacks or any progress on blocking the attacks."
Since FFXI servers are running top notch compared to the WoW servers to begin with. The competitors must be sabotaging the servers. Yeah that's it.
Let me translate that from FFXIese for you. See, in FFXIese, "China" means "that evil country where all the bad players who destroy the game come from". So when they say the Chinese are attacking it, they mean that the Evil Gilseller Conspiracy is attacking the game.
Seriously, the amount of anti-Chinese racism by FFXI players (both American and Japanese) is staggering. The term "gilseller" (which gets used to mean "someone who disrupts my gameplay" instead of its literal meaning, selling in-game money for real world money) is practically interchangable with "Chinese player" on the FFXI boards.
It's not surprising that FFXI players would blame the China. They hate China, for some irrational reason.
The fact that they're blaming people for profitting off playing the game for preventing people from playing the game should give you an idea of how crazy they are. To an FFXI player, China Is Evil.
