Real World Anger Affecting MMOG Reality?

We reported late last week that FFXI was under a DDOS attack. The Japanese origin of the title may be the reason for the attack, as Ludonauts asks the question of whether chinese crackers may attacking the game because of political frustration. From the article: "Discussion on the Allakhazam forum points the attack at Chinese protesters angry about the deletion of references to Japanese war atrocities from history textbooks: the DDOS attacks began on April 9, the same day as the protests in China. In FFXI, this issue is linked to the question of 'gil-sellers,' players who farm in-game resources for real-world cash, who in FFXI are usually characterized as Chinese: many who are suspected of being gil-sellers have placed comments in their searchable information fields like 'Resisting all Japanese goods, long live the People's Republic of China.'" Commentary available from game girl advance, Broken Toys, and Terra Nova.

I doubt the Chinese protests have much of anything to do with the Distributed Denial-Of-Service attack on the FF11 servers. It's a little embarrassing that anyone would credit Chinese aggression in the attack, only making the link because the game is Japanese. This and the prior attack on a group of high profile U.S. commerce and search sites are more likely standard scriptkiddie activity hiding behind government propagada. To them it's obvious their government will not seek them out for such idiocy (seeing the targets are on the PROC shitlist at that moment), so it's free hand to be stupid.

Anyone that claims this is Chinese cyberwarfare needs their tinfoil hat checked.

This comming from a AC which is a waste of a poster in many peoples eyes ^_~

The fact is though there is a LOT to back up the claim china is doing a DDOS attack on Japan, likewise this is NOT a unheardof stratagy from them. like I said they did it to us a few years back and in the end after months of investigating we KNEW it was them.

you can go on beleiveing the sky is brown for all I care, the fact that you cant see the lines connecting the dots doesnt mean that the lines and the dots arnt there. If this story was such a waste, why dont you start your own slashdot like site where only storys YOU like are posted.

Couse knowing you you would run it as a AC ^_~
