More on IBM's Project Monterey and SCO
karvind writes "Groklaw has posted another interesting article about AIX/Monterey/POWER research. The primary purpose of Project Monterey was to provide a stepping stone to Linux. IBM clearly stated this in promotional and technical materials, some of which SCO participated in publishing. It was always the plan that Project Monterey would be for POWER and SCO knew about IBM using SVR4 on POWER as far back as 2001. The article asks (and answers) some interesting questions: 'Where is the monetary damage to SCO? Where is there copyright infringement? Was SCO fully aware how quickly Linux would develop, that it would replace Unix, or did it take them by surprise?'"
Groklaw is well known as being run by filthy linux hippies. Why is it that Groklaw always seems to have articles and praise for IBM but only flames and complaints about SCO? Oh wait, I remember now. It's because Linux contains stolen SCO code. SCO just wants what's rightfully theirs -- the license fee for the stolen code to be paid. Of course, no linux hippie would ever pay for software, so suddenly SCO is the bad guy. It's no suprise slashdot keeps posting every piece of garbage to come out of Groklaw. Linux/IBM fanboyism at its' worst.
GNAA 9/11 COMISSION REACHES STARTLING CONCLUSION
On Monday, August 2nd 2004, the GNAA (Gay Nigger Association of America) 9/11 commission will release its report on the events of September 11th, 2001 and the utter, Rucas-esque failure of the government and GNAA's military to prevent, handle, or cover up the attack. In a press conference this morning, GNAA president timecop released the shocking conclusion of the report.
"lol, jews did wtc," said GNAA president timecop before spraying his viral Gaynigger seed all over a crowd of reporters.
This conclusion is in direct contradiction to the US Senate report that "lol sandniggers did wtc" that was released just a short time ago.
GNAA spokesnigger Penisbird held a press conference this morning where he was quoted as saying "It is obvious why the Senate 9/11 Commission failed it so badly: the presence of known Juden Joe Lieberman on the panel." This obvious conflict of interests went unreported by most major news sources because of the open anti-GNAA slant of almost every major organization.
Although the GNAA Commission still has more work to do, the apparent ringleader was Federal Reserve Chairjew Alan Greenspan. Greenspan has been quoted as saying that he supports a smaller economy in which he is the ultimate master. Destroying the WTC was just the first step in what appears to be a grand scheme to shrink the US economy to the size of his shriveled circumcised penis.
President timecop stated that he supports a strong dollar to keep gold jewelry (a staple of niggers) prices low.
Another conclusion of the panel was that the ops of #Politics played a pivotal role in the success of the attack. The usually miserly organization gave $2,000,000 to help fund the effort. They then continued with their unwavering aid to Jews by spreading false evidence that led others to believe that a bunch of sand niggers committed the attack. GNAA has promised a strong retaliation against #Politics.

Where is the monetary damage to SCO?
IBM used the Monterey agreement to get access to SCO's source code so that it could be combined with AIX, resulting in an enterprise-grade environment for the Intel platform. But around the same time, IBM decided that Linux was the future, and allowed the Monterey project to die. Since SCO was counting on licensing revenue from Monterey, it was screwed by IBM's switch to Linux.
Where is there copyright infringement?
SCO is claiming that instead of using its code for the Monterey project, IBM siphoned the code over to its Linux development efforts. This violated the terms of their agreement.
Was SCO fully aware how quickly Linux would develop, that it would replace Unix, or did it take them by surprise?
What SCO was or was not "fully aware" of at the time is irrelevant...the dispute is about IBM's violation of its contract with SCO.
The issue is really quite simple. IBM was supposed to use SCO's code to develop Monterey, and instead, they apparently used it to enhance Linux. Everything else being said about this case is just rehashing of religious fervor and procedural issues.
about 80% of all major internet servers run on freebsd, and hopefully everyone knows that FreeBSD is unix :). just seems an unfair statement to me.
Red Hat is for people who hate Windows, FreeBSD is for people who love Unix.

Maybe IBM was even smart enough to realize that tSCOg was hoping to be bought out, and decided *not* to play their little game, even though the financial cost was higher, in order to set an example for others who might think they could try something similar.
