Puzzle Pirates Puzzles Previewed
Puzzle Pirates (the boxed version) launches next week across the country, and in preparation Warcry has a rundown on the different games you'll find on the high seas. From the article: "Swordfighting: Swordfighting is the noble art of Pirate combat. Clear blades of the same type to strike blows upon your enemy. Swordfights can range from individual challenges to the great battles between Pirate crews that occur at sea during boarding.

If I knew what I was talking about, there would prolly be more text.
I played YPP last fall, and every one of these games except spades was in it at the time. There aren't any pictures, so I can't tell if the games have changed or not, but I suspect this is news merely because the commercial release is coming out, not because anything new has been added.
that that is is that that is not is not
So after actually reading the descriptions of the games, I realize that they are, in fact, the same as they were some time ago. Guess I still haven't learned to RTFA.

This link offered no more information that one can get by clicking on the documentation for the puzzles. In fact, the documents have more information, and have pictures.
Your reality is lies and balderdash and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever. - Baron Munchausen
This is a press release! The descriptions are short and vague, and there aren't even pictures. And the game itself has been out online for months, even if it's just now going to show up in stores.
If they go with this title, the MIAA and RIAA and Microsoft will be hitting them with serious lawsuits. Damn Pirates!!!! ARRRRR :)
I tried the free trial of the online game last year and loved it. PP is a starge concept for a MMRPG but in practice it works really well. I ended up ditching it when my free trial ran out since it really just sucked away my time, but having a standalone boxed version for casual play is a great idea. An added bonus is that the online game is refreshingly free of 133+ powergamers.
They deserve their success.

I finally got off of it when I realized I hate playing puzzle games. Before that, though, I was hard core playing. It sucks the life out of you. In a cute way.
Hearts
A card game for four players, similar to the game that comes with Windows. You get points for every hearts card and for the queen of spades. Try to get as few points as possible.
Alchemy
Arrange pipes to rout mixtures of different colors to the correct bottles.
navigating
Arrange falling stars into constelations by rotating three different rings. Kind of hard to explain.
Shipbuilding Build beautiful ships by moving pieces of wood, iron, cloth and ropes into various patterns.
And as many have already stated, this game is by far the greatest MMO(arrrr)PG ever. Mostly because what matters is your skill at the puzzles (which are all of high quality) but also because the great community. Everybody is helpful to new players and there are almost noone who speek l33t.
Posting as AC because I forgot my password.
I don't hate puzzle games, it's just that they generally have a weird life time to me. I get terribly addicted to one for a while, and play it all the time, hardcore intense. Then one day, it's all of a sudden just entirely boring to me. I've been playing PP for a little over a year, and it's about to the point where I'm bored with all of them. Shipwriting is finally getting tired to me, but I sure loved it when it first came out.
Of course, there's a huge economic and social/political aspect to the game as well. The only problem there is that Midnight (the original ocean) is pretty tightly bound up by established players, and to get anywhere on the new oceans, I'd have to spend some time in all of the puzzles again, building up my stats. And I have no interest in doing that. *shrug*

This is a game that anybody can get into. It combines massively multiplayer RPGs with games like Super Puzzle Fighter, where the game action is represented as a puzzle. Fighting is Super Puzzle Fighter-like, while other duties in the game involve playing a different puzzle. You should give the free trial a go. It is allot of fun.
I played this game last time Slashdot did an article on it, and I found it to be boring and repetitive. Yeah sure there are some puzzles, but when you have to do the same ones for 10 times in a row, it quickly looses its luster.

Eh, I dunno that the established players control everything. Generally speaking they get burnt out and then Eta gets taken over by scallywags, or something.
