World of Warcraft Battlegrounds in Testing
The much anticipated Battlegrounds content is live on the test servers for World of Warcraft. The patch notes for the upcoming game update include class changes and world modifications. From the notes: "The Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley battlegrounds are now available. The Warsong Gulch entrances may be found in the northern Barrens near the Mor'Shan Rampart (Horde) and south of Silverwing Outpost in Ashenvale (Alliance). The Alterac Valley entrances may be found east of Sofera's Naze in Alterac (Horde), and in the Headlands of Alterac (Alliance)."
Go ahead, go dress up like a forest fairy and roll some queer looking dice. I'll be at the bar fucking your mom.
DID YOUR MOM SERVE YOU AN EXTRA HELPING OF DUMB TONIGHT?
battlegrounds is only set up for same-server, cross-faction combat. which means that the outcome for the rest of your battlegrounds career will be determined by your first meeting. horde guild a meets up with alliance guilds b in a 40v40 bg match. horde guild a is geared up and has played since retail and they crush the feeble alliance pickup group.
what happens when the two teams meet up again? the horde will still have the advantage of superior gear, organization, and experience--naturally they will come out the victor again. what is the recourse for the alliance guilds? they have to gear up and figure out how to play as a team, both of which are hard processes that can take months of work if they are ever completed at all.
the player bases for most servers are going to remain constant at a couple hundred level 60's per server who are interested in battlegrounds. are we really supposed to believe that there can be enough fluxuation in these tiny examples to provide interesting results in battlegrounds? the only possible outcome i see is a war of attrition between the factions over who can do best to stop hemorrhaging players due to boredom.
