Internet Explorer's Share Dips Below 90%

sheepoo writes "CNN has a story stating that, according to a WebSideStory report, Internet Explorer has slipped below 90% usage share for the first time." From the article: "Firefox, an open-source browser collectively developed by the Internet community under the Mozilla Foundation, had a 6.8 percent share as of April 29, an increase from 3.0 percent since WebSideStory began tracking Firefox separately in October."

But, now that it seems like Firefox is about as secure as Internet Explorer but is compatible with less sites, I suspect that everyone will switch back to IE. Too bad for the Apple users, since Safari isn't quite up to snuff yet.

Slashdot rendering is slower than with the firebird series. Browsing freezes when something complicated is being rendered in another tab. Keyboard focus is often lost, and keypresses go to a hidden tab.

Firefox isn't quite there yet, why is everyone flocking to it?

I can see it now.....Linux nerds....kegs of Meister Brau....foosball tables....Cheese Doodles....and the ritual crushing of a legit copy of Win XP with baseball bats. All in the name of Gates going down. Have fun, ya dorks! :-)

Oh, and did I mention there would be no sign of women anywhere at this party?

It's preinstalled on a good percentage of home user's operation system.

And? OS X comes preinstalled with Safari and nearly every Linux distro comes with Firefox or Konq.

If Firefox can keep its usability/functionality/security edge over IE, I think that the numbers could keep falling.

Firefox's usabillity is crap compared to something Opera (or even Maxthon), functionallity is such that it breakes on every point release and its security is starting to affect it. So come again, how will it have edge over IE?

The way firefox spreads (world of mouth, mainly) can only become more powerful the more people use it.... if it can maintain its edge.

Mozilla's marketing is something you laugh at when someone mentiones it. They blew away $300k for an ad no one ever looked at in NYT (check their monthly downloads if you don't believe me) and they "use" bloggers to promote Firefox. It just happens that nearly anyone reading a blog already knows what Firefox is and is either already using it or has decided not to.

When IE7 arrives you can be damn sure it will hurt Firefox bad. Really bad. They had 5 years, 5 years and they come up with a browser that can't even update itself without a complete reinstall and the deletion of your profile folder???

Rest assured everyone using Firefox will at least look at IE when it comes. Only 54 mil users have looked at Firefox till now.
