New Final Fantasy Advent Children Trailer

Square-Enix has released a New Advent Children Trailer for E3, dutifully hosted by Gamespot, and it is by far the most coherent and beautiful so far. You can finally get a sense of the story they're going to be telling, and can catch a glimpse of nearly every character from the game. From the article: "While the end of the trailer displays a date for the North American release, we've been told by Square Enix that they're still in talks with Sony Pictures Entertainment in regards to a release date outside of Japan. However, the release should be close to Japan's September date, so fans in the United States shouldn't have to endure for too much longer to get their Final Fantasy goodness."

Not a dupe. This is a brand spankin new trailer. It rocks too. One thing, is I note anew version of One Winged Angel in the background, sounded like done by The Black Mages. Wonder if that's the case.

I heard the Black Mages were doing some U.S. shows. That would be pretty amazing to see a bunch of nerds rocking out. I wonder if there would be any hot babes dressed as Tifa? >.

The version of One-Winged Angel in the trailer is very similar to the one that was played last night at the "More Friends" concert in Los Angeles. Half-orchestral and half-rock, with the lyrics changed slightly from the original version of the song.

Thanks a bunch. There's nothing like being completely unable to read subtitles because of Gamespot's hideously small windows combined with the video mess of streaming it.

After watching Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, I was left feeling a little empty. I couldn't quite figure out why I didn't think it was fantastic since I am a huge fan of the games. I thought maybe it was the animation...nah, that was great....maybe it was the voice acting...or the script...those could be it. But I really think the difference is that I don't have as much emotional attachment to the characters. You spend a lot more time with your characters in a game. Also, what would be the slow parts of the movie are user controlled. They leave a lot of the climax parts for the videos which makes them more of a treat. I think I will have that in mind and lower my expectations a little. I need to view this as just a movie...not an interactive novel like the games are.

Really? Fighting monsters and bosses are the slow parts of the movie? I suppose you can say that, considering how boring the ffx and ffx-2 gameplay was, but that means the cutscenes are awesome, right?

      right?

    2. Re:The trailer looks great, but... by brkello · · Score: 1

I meant more of the walking around and talking to everyone in a town. The more basic plot elements. Yeah, it doesn't show you killing imps 40 times to get that silver dagger. It has major battles, though. Normally boss battles in FF yeah, you fight it until it dies, but then you get a cut scene of really kicking its ass, or striking the final blow, or warping somewhere to fight something. The game just has a lot of elements that aren't just watching, a movie has no interaction so it has to build plot and affection for the characters. I just don't think the first movie did a good job of that. FF cut scences are great, but you need more cohesion for a movie.

I don't think you needed to be a dick about it though...I didn't say that all parts that are user controlled are slow parts, did I? Just because I say A->B doesn't mean B->A. I just said that slow parts in the movie are covered during the interactiveness. Generally, in the game, there aren't slow parts that they devote a whole video too. Like when you talk to every cat, it doesn't zip in to a fancy video with effects and then the cat says "meow" and it is over. Though, that would be freaking hilarious now that I think of it.

No. I'm a gamer too, but was able to look passed my fandom and admit it - FF:SW was weak. Slow pace, weak script, and a dull story. I was high as a kite when I saw the movie, and I was still disappointed with the plot.

And the voice actors can't be blamed - they had solid actors involved (unless you want to say that Steve Buschemi and Donald Sutherland are talentless).

It wasn't just about being let-down. It was a weak movie, plain and simple. I think the problem was that they didn't want to do their usual FF fare and wanted an American-style story, but didn't really know how to do the American-style story. This is why Advent might be better - they're working in a more comfortable field.
