Feds Shut Down Elite Torrents

honkimon writes "Cnn Money reports, "Government agents said the onslaught included 10 search warrants and the shut down of a central Web site used to coordinate all file-sharing activity on the Elite Torrents network. That Web site, Elitetorrents.org, had a selection of copyrighted works that government officials described as virtually unlimited.""

These agents and their bosses should be tried in a court of law for treason, and if convicted, sentenced to the harshest punishment allowed by law.

THis action is nothing more than fascism, i.e., the corporate takeover of government. The corporations are our country's greatest enemy, and this action is nothing more than treason.

  5. We tried working with Elite Torrents... by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Troll

An employee suggested to me that we use Elite Torrents for few offices here as an evaluation. I was skeptical at first but he explained the benefits of using ET instead of buying software. So I decided to let him install the bittorrent (Azurus I think) into 5 offices to see how the employees got on. Besides, our IT manager had been using BT in his office and it seemed to work fine, why not try it on the client offices?

Once he'd got the handhelds up and running with Azurus we let the users try it out. It all seemed fine to start with: Elite Torrents was a pretty good replacement for buying commericial software (not to mention cheaper) and the users could still do their work as normal.

Alas it did not stay that way. After a few days, I had lost count of the number of complaints received from the MPAA, RIAA and Department of Homeland Security. Users could not find things they were used to (like Windows Update) or tasks they could not perform that they previously could with registered software. The constant harrasment by the Feds became more of a day job than my own. The final straw came when one employee lost several hours work when the Azurus suddenly had an error reading from our intranet site and corrupted his pirated software.

Needless to say, the Elite Torrent team offered no support whatsoever. I made the employee remove the Azurus from the offices and lets just say he's not with us anymore.

Actually, yeah, there's a pretty strong argument that says all profit is undeserved and thus a 'rip-off.'

Yes, per the Slashdot manual, Making a Profit = Evil; Mr Lucas and all the other corporations should just write it off, because once the start producing worthy goods, somebody else who has the money will happily pay for something us poor schlubs who don't have meny get for free.
