Microsoft In Talks To Buy Claria

axonis writes "For the last two weeks, Microsoft has been in talks to buy Claria, an adware marketer formerly called Gator, and best known for its pop-up ads and software that tracks people visiting Web sites. The offer price on the table as recently as Wednesday was $500 million. One person briefed on the deal said there was opposition within Microsoft to the acquisition. Analysts said Microsoft would probably be most interested in the long-term potential of Claria's personalization software rather than its pop-up ads."

I also wrote up something about this here. Anyone want a Yahoo 360 invite?

And I switched to working EXCLUSIVELY on Ubuntu yesterday. I had been dual booting for almost 6 years. It is this kind of crap that drives me out of MS clutch.

Whatever their intentions be for Claria, the public perception would be very severe. Imagine hearing on the news "Microsoft buys spyware company'. When I told this to my colleagues, it was fun to see their reaction as some have had some terrible experience with Adware/Spywares.

On a different topic, I think Ubuntu gets GNOME correctly. Howver shiny KDE might be, GNOME is more subdued & looks more professional. Also, the default fonts are easy on the eyes. They're eaasy to read & well spaced, unlike crammed crap on KDE
