Form Filling Through Office 12

Qa32 writes "For those chomping at the bit for more Office 12 details, Microsoft offered a tiny peek at the upcoming offering, or offerings, due next year. In what he termed the first public viewing of Office 12, Chris Caposella, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Information Worker Product Management Group, showed off a distributed forms capability that would enable customers to fill in and submit XML forms easily via a browser, without having to run Microsoft InfoPath on their PC."

CRN has learned that major interface rework is under way for this important release aimed at surfacing a users' most desired features and functions and eliminating icon clutter.

I can see why some people might like having their icons change around, but I hate it. I want to click where the thing always is and have the thing work. I don't want to click where the [save] icon is and have it silently [print] instead. Make it easy for me to change where they are, sure, but don't change them for me.

When I have to use an XP machine, I lose productivity while the start menu keeps changing depending on what I've just run. I have to keep saying, "ok, where is [foo] now?"

I guess I'm not a good candidate assimilation yet.

    how about sharing

How about not. Since you seem to be an avergage random slashbot, any explanation or rationalization about anything that involves Microsoft would be a monumental waste of time.

It's not my problem that you don't know what InfoPath+SharePoint are or can do, nor is it my job to ease you along Microsoft's marketing slush, which in case you have not noticed by now, is directed to people who buy software, which in all likelihood excludes you. I'd recommend you simply ignore it. I have for years, and I've managed to keep my sanity.

I was merely asking if you knew what this article was about, and we've established that you do not. So let's leave it at that.

Yeah, it's so insensitive of Microsoft to integrate this into Office. All those lawyers, accountants and doctors that need forms support should just hack PDF with a CGI script and they should be all set.

Office 12 is very different from past upgrades. It's ment to stir excitement for Office again through some huge sweeping changes. There's a few completely new products in it as well. I can't talk about details but suffice to say you won't recognize the applications when you first load it.

The Open Office team will have their work cut out for them.
