Old Grandma Hardcore

On the off chance you haven't seen this yet, take a look at the Old Grandma Hardcore blog. A gent has begun chronicling the gaming habits of his elderly grandmother, who at the moment is working through Prince of Persia in between swearing and pain pills. From the site: "Grandma has long wanted to try the Prince of Persia series after reading the reviews. She was really into Devil May Cry because killing people with swords is far superior than say, coldly sniping them from afar. Also, she enjoyed audibly congratulating herself for a good combo; for example she would whisper 'Yeah, ...Stylish' in her best Issac Hayes impersonation..."

I wasn't overly impressed with it, as it was a little long and uneventful for my tastes. It does have an interesting portrayal of the future, and it's not a BAD movie. Lots of people seem to like the movie, so don't avoid it just because of me.

It's a lot better than {8_8} apparently thinks it is. Philip Marlowe in a futuristic setting, basically. Lots of fun and interesting subtext. A cool as hell score ("Blue Runner Blues", especially). Art design to die for.
I think it succeeds in large degree because it's not a science fiction movie. Blade Runner could've been set in London in 1944 (Deckard hunts nazi spies), and it would've still been a good movie.

I believe it is widely considered the best science fiction movie ever made.

You can barely hear grandma except for the occasional curse she yells out. And you cant tell if she is even playing. If the dude had a little more hardware like a cheap video capture card and a better mic he would have something. Have a shot of grandma playing while cursing up a storm and a box with a feed of the video game she is playing. Then we can see what she is bitching about.

Intersting paper though; it was only published in Arch Neurol? I'd imagine I'd see something like this in the other medical journals.
