Yawn. Anyone else tired of hearing about how evil a guy who can no longer be elected is. Agree or disagree in ~3 years he is gone, and there is nothing to do till then. At least nothing some film is going to do.

So, we have this 1984 rip off "V for Vendetta." Of course, the terrorists (sorry, insurgent) is the good guy.

Yeah, I know Moore wrote this long before 911 and Bush II, but there really is one lens this 2005 film is going to be viewed through or reported as. The comic will get a 2 sentence mention and then we'll gt three paragraphs on how anti-Bush the film is. Yawn.

I would have been more interested if they remade the "V" TV show form the 80s with Mike Ironsides and the lizards.

I do like how they got Winston (John Hurt) from the film 1984 to do the Big Brother speech.

    .

I also love how Left wing people have hijacked the book 1984 to bash the Right. Orwell wrote 1984 because he was afraid of the Left. Big Brother, Uncle Joe. IngSoc, English Socialism. The Party.

"You are talking about a man who fought as a volunteer in the Spanish civil war"

Yes, and who came away very disillusioned from that particular experience.

"Liberalism and authoritarianism are orthognal dimensions to Left and Right, you can choose one from each category. "

While there is certainly point to this, the particular dystopia depicted in 1984 is indeed of the leftista kind. (This also goes for "Animal farm")

"1984 is a vision of an authoritarian future, not a Left wing one per se (I fail to see where the semi-autonomous trading collectives are mentioned for example)."

Ah, so because your own personal little lefty wank-wank fantasy revolves around "semi-autonomous trading collectives", any concept not involving the aforementioned "semi-autonomous trading collectives" cannot be defined as "left"? Precious, simply precious.

Hitler was a socialist. Nazi stands for National Socialism.
