God of War the Newest Video Game Movie
warpwhistle writes "Sony Computer Entertainment's God of War is the latest videogame property to be snatched up by Hollywood studios. Universal announced today that it has secured the rights to the game, and has tied producers Charles Roven and Alex Gartner to the project. Gartner has produced such films as Batman Begins, Three Kings and Twelve Monkeys, while Roven produced Out of Time and Barbershop 2."
After a ton of people complaining about crappy hollywood movies, far too many bad sequals, and superhero movies, this is their plan to bring back movie-goers? If history has taught me anything, all these video game movies will be horrible, and not worth seeing. The only one I think has any hope is a Metal Gear Solid movie, and that would only be good if directed by Kojima.
Damn, that's my bad. Was trying to get this out as fast as possible. A lot better names tied to this movie than most movies based on video games though
Has Hollywood any originality left? Lately all they seem to release are rehashes of Japanese horror movies, video game movies or remakes of other movies & TV series.
;) I suppose both industries dabble in a bit of sequelism, but I enjoyed most of the games in that list. How about a trailer for a movie that's based on a game that's a sequel to a game that's a sequel to a game?

Heh, I keep wondering when the torch carrying, censorship mob is going to stop beating on GTA and turn their attention to Hollywood. That's the true target in all of this afterall. The video game fight is just a warm up.

The Island is similar to Gattica, but Gattica sucked and the Island was good, thus voiding Gattica.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is NOT Nightmare Before Christmas 2 just because it uses the same stop motion animation. You could say Terminator 2 is like Corpse Bride then, because the opening to T2 was done in stop motion animation as well.

While we're on the subject of overlooked blockbusters just itching to be made, I'd like to see something based on Fallout. But I'd be heartbroken if they put out a straight-to-home-video suckfest.
Wow...if this gets into production the censors are going to have a field day. GoW was all about blood, guts, dismemberment, sex and boobies. Sounds like the norm for most of the world, but america will be getting this with a nice NC17 rating.
As a side note, i saw someone mention the whole halflife movie thing. I thought it would be cool to have a movie based on halflife 2, but to showcase the events between halflife 1 and halflife 2. This way it wouldn't even have to include any of the characters from the games and since the story is so vague in that space of time anyhow, there's no chance to mess it up!
