Senator Carper Calls for Tax on Online Porn
Better-living-thru-taxes writes "Senator Tom Carper (D-Del) is calling for a 25% tax on all internet pornograpy. The money is to help police fight online child pornographers. 'Carper says the bill will keep kids away from X-rated material.'"
What do I think about this? I can't see how a tax could possibly do anything except make politicians justify keeping porn around longer since they are now financially benefitting from the adult industry.

This is because sex outside of marriage, in the bible, is basically consided 'theft by conversion', thether she's consenting or not. (Because she's her father's property.)
OTOH, divorce is condemned. Mainly because it leaves a worthless woman flapping around loose, which is fairly cruel to her.

Though the Democrats may exemplify what the Americans deem to be `leftist thought', the Americans deem practically anything non-Christian to be `leftist thought'. The Democrats are no more left on a global scale than the Republicans are. In fact, if there were a graph with tiny divisions on it to show left from right, the Democrats would probably be one tick left of the Republicans... And still far from center.

No, I'd support it for the same reason I supported the invasion of Iraq, even though I knew that Bush was B.S.ing when he implied a link between Hussein and Al Quaeda. Even though I knew that even if there were WMD, it was unlikely that Iraq was going to find a way to deliver them to America.
The reason? Some countries just need to have their asses kicked. Iraq was one of them. Canada should be next on the list.
You know, Canada has 90% of their population amassed within 100 miles of the U.S. border? They've got a lot of guns, according to the pinko Michael Moore. If that isn't a threat to our national security, I don't know what is. That's one hell of an invasion force.
Of course, even if Canada were to attack. it really would have to be a civilian invasion, as the Canadian Forces are too incompetent to take a tiny island between Canada and Greenland away from Denmark, let alone make it past any US border checkpoint with more than one person manning it.
Matter of fact, that would make Denmark a good candidate to ask to be the first partner in the new coalition of the willing for the invasion of Canada!
We could probably count on the French in Quebec to rise up and fight like the Kurds!

IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!!!! Why the HELL! are you people still argueing about who's responsible for this bill? Did anybody actually READ what the bill was about? It wasn't censorship it was a tax to help the government fight CHILD pornography. You know that act where small children are molested on camera, abused, exploited by nasty old men.
I'm sure it can be tricky business to weed out who is using underage models and who isn't, especially with children becoming more mature at younger ages, so it makes reasonable sense, that if the government has to spend money reviewing your business, your industry will pay the tab.
As to this somehow reducing children going to XXX sites, I'm not entirely sure how this is supposed to help, but then again thanks to slashdot's "throw it out and see what they say" policy with regarding to editing news stories, I may never know the rationale behind it reducing children visiting XXX sites as well. But even if it doesn't do that, it's not the GOAL of the bill! He just listed it as a possible side effect.
Catholic churches and kiddie porn are almost synomynous anyway.
