Wikipedia Announces Tighter Editorial Control
Daedalus_ wrote to mention a Reuters article reporting from Wikimania. "Wikipedia, the Web encyclopaedia written and edited by Internet users from all over the world, plans to impose stricter editorial rules to prevent vandalism of its content, founder Jimmy Wales was quoted as saying Friday." (Update: 08/06 23:45 GMT by J : But see his response here!) Meanwhile, kyelewis writes "WikiMania, the First International WikiMedia Conference is open in Germany, but if you couldn't gather the money or the courage to fly over, you can listen online in Ogg Vorbis format, or if you miss the talks, you can download them later. The WikiMania Broadcast page has more information, and the WikiMania Programme is also available, so jump in and learn more about the mysterious technology that is the wiki."

where gay politicians get assasinated for being gay,
:P
Is it better when politicians get assassinated for being... politicians?
where there will be more mosques than churches in 22 years,
Either is worthless in my eyes.
where holocaust deniers get equal air time in order to show "both sides of the issue",
You mean like how... debates.. usually work?
where bombs go off on subways,
Sure beats having airplanes fly into public buildings
where the laws don't provide close to the level of protection for individual rights as in the US,
Where we (most of the time) don't NEED laws to provide a level of protection (then again, it seems the US government doesn't really care about those aforementioned laws)
where there will be only 40% of the current workforce in only 20 years (!!!)
I sure intend to do my part! I'm working on being a millionaire within 20 years
where documentary film makers get shot for making anti-islamic films,
Where one documentary film maker has been murdered. I believe people are also murdered in the USA occasionally. In fact, I believe the murder rate is about 4 times greater on average in the USA than in Europe.
where neo-nazism is still a major problem,
About as major as the Ku Klux Klan in America. Dear me...
where gay politicians get assasinated for being gay,
Name three. I sure can't. In fact, I can't think of a single example.
And please don't tell me you're going to cite the USA as a shining beacon of gay rights and tolerance...
where there will be more mosques than churches in 22 years,
So what? Are you an Islamophobe or something? In Europe we believe that people should be free to choose which religion to follow (if any), and if they choose Islam then that's up to them. We don't believe in forcing people to pretend to be Christian, unlike a certain United group of American States.
where holocaust deniers get equal air time in order to show "both sides of the issue",
This is bullshit. The amount of air time given to holocaust deniers ranges from zero (in Germany) to practically zero (in the UK).
where bombs go off on subways,
Ah, and how different this is to the USA, where bombs merely destroy large buildings in places like Oklahoma. Note that Europe so far has not had any incidents of anthrax being posted through the mail, nor have we had any airliners flown into buildings killing thousands of people, nor have any of our cities been terrorised by crazy snipers. Terrorism is a global threat, pal, and America has suffered just as much as Europe.
where the laws don't provide close to the level of protection for individual rights as in the US,
Guantanamo Bay. Three-strikes (life for stealing pizza). "Free speech zones" at Presidential rallies. And let's not forget that it's only forty years since you guys stopped treating blacks as though they were subhuman!
The only "right" the US protects that Europe typically doesn't is the right to bear arms. You know what? Most people over here don't think they need to bear arms. We aren't terrified of being murdered in our beds, you see.
where xenophobic anti-immigration policies are higher than anywhere in the world,
ROFL! I suggest you look at Australia and Japan, mister. I won't deny that there's a lot of xenophobia among some parts of the European population, but by and large it's a minority and the proposed policies don't, in fact, get put into law.
But Australia does lock asylum seekers up, and Japan does refuse to grant thousands of ethnic Koreans citizenship even though they were fucking born there.
where there will be only 40% of the current workforce in only 20 years (!!!)
I can't even work out what you're talking about there. What I have managed to work out is that you're a troll, though. Clearly some rather Europhobic moderators on duty tonight...
