Windows 95 Turns 10

ColdGrits writes "It's hard to believe it, but 10 short years ago today saw the launch of Windows '95. Here is an archive of the Washington Post's story on the day. As part of the launch, Microsoft paid $12,000,000 for the rights to use the Rolling Stones' song "Start Me Up" (containing the prophetic line 'You make a grown man cry'). "

The continued fragmentation of Linux into more (unneeded) distributions will only make Microsoft software more attractive to the vast majority of IT departments, home users and the like. For every new distribution of Linux, you have a smaller competitor for Microsoft to deal with. If Linux was all that it is cracked up to be, this fragmentation would be frowned upon by the OSS community so that Linux could TRULY have a foot to stand on in the competition against the "EVIL" Microsoft.

It is comical that you MS bashers think that this paradigm will be the downfall of Microsoft (or MSFT as some of you /.'ers refer to, and ONLY you /.'ers refer to).

Additionally, $90 for an OS is a lot cheaper than hiring a $X0,000 per year "Linux Expert" to download kernels, recompile, redistribute, etc.

    ROI baby. ROI.

Yeah, though it's not exactly the same kind of site, I've found myself visiting digg.com more often because of this kind of childishness.

Yeah, indeed it was so superior that Commodore didn't need this 10-year head start to dominate the industry with their amazing product.

OH WAIT that didn't happen BECAUSE YOU'RE A FAG.

I think Microsoft pays people to read slashdot and defend its crappy products. Also, Monad is a misspelling of what the os really is Gonad
