Five Ways To Save Video Games
Games.net has an article up with the somewhat dramatic title of Five Ways to Save Video Games. The piece doesn't feel the need to pull any punches. From the article: "#1 Stop Treating Women Like Whores - Sexy is fine. Titillating can be fun. But when you show stupid jiggle-physics and scantily-clad girls cooing and moaning and wriggling, you show yourselves for what you really are: sex-crazed children. And don't think for a minute that the mainstream media doesn't pick up on this. If you can't stop demeaning women (with skimpy outfits and hyper-sexuality) and men (by glamorizing massive musculature and testosterone-dripping masculinity), then get the hell out of the industry."
Alright, well that was a complete waste of time. The entire article is basicly 1)Stop treating women like sex objects. 2)Stop making games like movies. 3)Stop making games that revolve around heroes 4)Stop putting craploads of money into games, it doesnt just make them better. While i think this is a very biased article and is pretty crappy in all respects, all these issues have been discussed before and are nothing new. Personally i dont think women are objectified in games, if they are..that game was meant for a guy..and thats who's gonna play it. If your a woman who doesnt want to see jiggly boobies dont play the game. Would you tell playboy to stop making women pose nude? errr wait..men read those for the articles right? The rest of the article pretty much sais that movies need to stop being cinematic experiences and that money going into said cinematic experience doesnt make it better. Actually it usually does, put a low budget title against a high budget title and the high budget title will probly be better. Plus, people want to be heroes, alot of people play games to be a heroe unlike there real life. Theres TONS of games that dont show women in jiggly fashion. Theres alot of games where you dont play a heroe. Theres a hella lot of games that dont have huge cinematic budgets. This article was a waste of time..please dont read it.
Not that I dissagree with the sentiment (far from it infact), but isn't mainstream movies and TV even worse than games in general, ESPECIALLY in the US?
At least in games things are obviously fantasy. A lot of TV/Movies are also fantasy, but dressed up as fact.
