I think as more people use the web, they're seeing their offline social lives offline suffer. This offcourse results in some form of mental illness. I think blogging is really a form of therapy.
From what I've seen, blogs are more like an indication that one needs therapy rather than a treatment in and of itself.
A savvy psychologist could probably write a decent honours thesis on the patterns of mental illness among LiveJournal users.
