CheckPoint Acquires Snort

bobdehnhardt writes "The Snort-announce list was burning with the news that CheckPoint has signed an agreement to acquire Sourcefire, the commercial arm of the Snort community. As part of the agreement, CheckPoint will "continue to develop and distribute Snort under the GPL, improve and document the program to stay on the cutting edge and expand the snort.org web site." Here is a message from Snort creator Marty Roesch."

Who are the ones benefiting this new internet bubble?

My bets goes to Apple, since they are the ones making shovels this time.

I don't know what Checkpoint is. I don't know what Snort is. I don't know what Sourcefire is.

I could Google for these things and find out, but I don't know why I would want to know what they are.

I do know that Snort is free software, and I'm always glad to see more free software out there. Maybe some day when I have a need for whatever it does I'll find it on a Google search.

I guess my only clue is the department line.

Two other companies you've never heard of have merged. Film at 11.
