Senator Wants to Keep U.N. Away From the Internet
Martin Boleman writes "ZDNet reports that Sen. Norm Coleman, a Republican from Minnesota, said his nonbinding resolution would protect the Internet from a takeover by the United Nations that's scheduled to be discussed at a summit in Tunisia next month. "The Internet is likely to face a grave threat, If we fail to respond appropriately, we risk the freedom and enterprise fostered by this informational marvel and end up sacrificing access to information, privacy and protection of intellectual property we have all depended on." he said in a statement."
It sure is an embarrassing time to be an American... I'd prefer the U.N. to have control of the Internet address resolution system to Bush any day.
what t>hey think is
The USA may have large armed forces, but compared to the armed forces of everyone else combined, it's small.
*cough* *sputter* *gag* Where the hell have you been, fella?! The US has a military that is larger than the rest of the world combined. Take Aircraft Carriers for example. Trace through this list of carriers and find how many are in service. Lemme see, Russia's got 1, France has got 1 (which is always in dry dock for repairs, BTW), Spain has 1, Thailand has 1, the UK has 2, Italy has 1, and Brazil has 1. Note that most of these are either regular or "light" carriers. No country in that list operates a Super Carrier. The US operates 12 Super Carriers, only two of which are not nuclear powered.
Here's a list of Destroyers. Note that only the US and the UK operate any.
Here's a list of Cruisers. Again, note that the US, Russia, and Peru are the only countries that operate Cruisers.
Let's not forget tanks and other armored fighting vehicles. Or how about figher planes or AWACS?
In case it's not percolating through that head of yours, the US outnumbers the entire world in military units, as well as outclasses the rest of the world in military technology.
While one would hope that this confrontation doesn't come to military might, I can assure you that the US can take on the rest of the world, and still have the Industrial Base to produce units far faster than everyone else. Might I remind you of WWII where the US provided the technology, the equipment, and the people for the majority of the war? Not to mention that fact that we had the shit kicked out of us at Pearl Harbor, and STILL managed to fight the Japanese front with a superior industrial base?
