Mars Polar Lander Lost Again
IZ Reloaded writes "The Mars Global Surveyor during one of its latest scans of the area where the Mars Polar Lander was originally spotted, discovers that the spacecraft is no longer there! Space.com reports, "We conclude that our interpretation of these features was in error. This is not the location of the Mars Polar Lander. Because the landing uncertainty ellipse is so much larger than our images, and we do not have another candidate to which to target...we cannot continue to hunt for the lander," the MSSS site explains."

Someone must have flunked out of calc. Either that, or perhaps this is proof against some of the calc formulas. I've often wondered just how accurate they are and whether adjustments might need to be made to some of the mathematic formulas. Am I being a bit bold with these statements? After all, these formulas do have "proofs" that SEEM to be logical...

When did the composition of body-Slashdot reach the tipping point where karma bonus points become more important than some semblance of accuracy? At one point, the plurality of /. posted in opposition to (or, at least operated in spite of) such social devolvement.
That's one of the better adaptations though.
