Ships Turned Away As Aussie Customs' IT System Melts Down
An anonymous reader writes "Urgent shipments of medicine and goods for the holiday season have been turned away by customs officials due to a massive computer problem. The initial budget for the system upgrade was said to be A$80 million but has since blown out to A$250 million. Customs officials and the government have been forced to admit that they might actually have to revert to the old system if things don't improve. One cargo user said on national TV that he used to process 300 orders daily but the new system is so complex and unusable, he's happy if he can manage 100 orders per day. The system failure is expected to have a massive impact especially on the retail sector this Christmas."
Just substitute a Koala, that's what the Australian politicans have been doing for years. (They don't have dogs down there, do they? Ya, Koalas.)
Actually, some of those same companies are involved in a major project at my company as well. And now a very similar thing is happening to us. When I read the headline for this posting, right away I thought "I bet IBM was involved and sold them on a zSeries solution".
IBM is pushing the it's zSeries mainframes like gangbusters. Making outrageous claims about their capabilities and scalability. Essentially, they will tell you ANYTHING to convince you this is the right solution, no matter what the application is. Even backing their claims up with ridiculous and fundamentally flawed reports and test data, all performed by IBM.
So beware! If your company is considering a zSeries machine to run Linux, do your homework! And DO NOT LET IBM HELP YOU do the research. zLinux is not all it is cracked up to be.
Because creationism is a load of superstitious bullshit that doesn't need to be taught to anybody.
It was disproven long ago. There is NO CREATOR, and there never was.
Get over it. Your god doesn't exist, nobody else's god exists, and you're a fool for believing in it.
In short, creationism is not science, it was disproven long ago by science, and the only time it should be given in a science class is just long enough for the teacher to say "You may have heard of creationism or intelligent desigh. These are not science, and will not be discussed in this class."

The system must have been coded in India or some other third world code mill via an outsourced project conducted by some stupid government bureaucrat seeking to low ball a budget estimates.
