Worm With Rootkit Package Loose On AIM

Mr0624 writes "According to a recent article on C|Net a new worm is swiftly spreading via AIM to many computers. It delivers a brutal root-kit which bypasses security software and takes control of a PC." From the article: "The worm was spotted in an AOL IM chatroom and infected one of the PCs that FaceTime uses for worm bait. The company said it also has seen the pest hit other computers. 'It is still out there, and it is definitely something the user should be leery of ... The rootkit is designed to not be detected, and that is the scary part.'"

It's a Windows rootkit, genius. Macs are unpopular enough that writing anything malicious for them is rare. Why write for something hardly anyone uses?

I disagree. At least with "vast".

But that is nothing internet-specific. Any community without specific idiot filters has its fair share of idiots. I am aware that this sounds extremely arrogant but it's simply my personal experience.

    • People who believe in AD.
    • People who voted George W. Bush.
    • People who steer a 2-ton, 200 hp SUV without knowing jack about traffic rules.
    • People who let anybody in on the doorstep.
    • People who click on everything clickable on the internet.

    This well exceeds "uneducated".

It's outright obvious that it doesn't work, just like it's outright obvious that 99.9999999%+ of people playing lotto won't win the jackpot, but do you see any shortage of people playing? I don't understand what drives these people... They're all excited over the big jackpot, but only a handful will ever win. Statistically speaking, your chances are pretty much nil, so it's a waste of time and money; They're mostly paying money to fund the lotto industry, which makes games that are made to be addictive (psychologists are paid to ensure their design is highly addictive), and that are partially to blame for social problems (compulsive gamblers have their share of guilt too). The 3 casinos I know of have mostly hurt the local economy (in one case very seriously), provide crappy paying jobs, need to be subsidized by the gov't, and end up attracting unemployed poor locals instead of attracting bus loads of rich tourists. Yet, nobody seems to give a fuck... Even when we see kids in their teen years getting addicted to it. Sad.

I've saved a lot of money by not playing so far, and I keep winning every single time by not playing :) I've saved hundreds or thousands over the average lotto playing folk. But most won't ever see it that way.
