Solaris Now an Option for IBM Blades

Amiga Trombone writes to tell us that IBM and Sun have reached an agreement allowing Solaris 10 to be supported on IBM BladeCenter servers. From the article: "IBM confirmed the move in a statement, saying Sun is among more than 700 partners in the "BladeCenter ecosystem" and that as an operating system option, Solaris joins Windows, Linux for x86 and Power chips, and IBM's AIX version of Unix. IBM won't sell Solaris or support for the operating system to customers, IBM said. Anyone interested will have to purchase the software and support from Sun."

'Star Trek' writer Michael Piller, 57

Michael Piller, "Star Trek" veteran and co-creator/executive producer of USA Network's hit series "The Dead Zone," died early Tuesday at his Los Angeles home after a long battle with cancer. He was 57. Before co-creating "The Dead Zone" with his son Shawn, Piller was head writer on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," leading the show to a best drama Emmy nomination in 1994, the first for a syndicated series. He went on to co-create the following two "Trek" installments, "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager." Both series ran for seven seasons. In 1998, Piller wrote and co-produced "Star Trek: Insurrection," the ninth installment in Paramount Pictures' successful Star Trek feature franchise.

Whoa, that's horrible. (Yes, I checked Google news to verify it.) For those of you who don't know, Piller is most famous for authoring the hit two-part episode "Best of Both Worlds". The really funny part about that episode was that Piller was leaving Star Trek that season, so he wrote a cliffhanger that would be incredibly hard for the producers and writers to write their way out of. Then over the summer break, Roddenberry managed to convince Piller to come back, forcing Piller to work his way out of the mess he'd made!

Maybe we'd get far better televison if writers did that to each other more often. ;-)

Hydrogen is just an attempt at diverting the conversation about fuel efficiency elsewhere.

Right now, Volkswagen and Audi offer conventional cars that offer 3 liters/100km fuel efficiency, that is not matched even by hybrid cars.

Another words, the technology to save fossil fuels is here, it is just not being used.

(3 liters per 100km = 78.4048614 miles per gallon, hybrids get about 40 miles per gallon)
