OMG Girlz Don't Exist On Teh Intarweb!
The Escapist has a brilliant article penned by a young woman who has to deal with blatant disbelief at her existence. Why? Because there are no women on the internet. From the article: "This is the story of my internet life. (I'm not quite sure if it's a good or bad thing that I have an internet life, but internet life it is.) I'm a girl, I play games and I exist on the internet. Or so you think. Time after time, I get told I'm not a girl and that I don't exist. It's happened so much that I'm beginning to think that it's true. So, I spend some time getting to know them. Who are these mysterious creatures called girls if they don't exist on the internet? What does this mean for the men of the internet?"
You don't get out much, huh?
There's nothing sadder than guys who fawn all over lame ass "internet chicks" because they have no realistic scope and depth or breadth of experience to compare internet chicks with. Any chick who isn't outright ugly becomes totally hot in their minds, because they've never seen a hot chick out at a club or asked the cute starbucks girl out or anything.
I mean, I guess ugly girls need love, too. Just don't delude yourself into thinking that the girl you're loving is anything more than a mediocre internet chick.
You can call me a dick if you want, too. Just remember my words when you fall for the first chick that'll tolerate you and you're just too thrilled to have some chick with tits pay attention to you and you jump into something too quickly and regret it later. Guys need to be a bit more discerning. Even internet dork guys.
I can't count the number of times some friend has been all crazy over his new girlfriend and thinking she's the best thing on earth while the rest of us scratch our heads wondering why he's sunk so low.
First off, my snippy comment: The quality of the writing in 'The Escapist' is worth every penny I paid to read it. Same for the design.
This democratization of mediocrity is what I hate about the internet. Since when is someone whining about teenage boys being imbeciles worthy of Slashdot commentary? Because if you read the article, that's what is going on here.
I don't know about the rest of you, but the general awkwardness of teenager boys around teenage girls isn't really 'News for Nerds' or 'Stuff that matters' in my book.
