FBI Widens Use of National Security Letters
An anonymous reader writes "The Washington Post reports that the FBI has drastically increased its use of National Security Letters (NSL), which permit it to collect information without judicial oversight. According to the article, the use of NSLs is up by a factor of 100, and the records are kept forever (in the past they were thrown away if the subject was cleared). Deep in the article, the author reports that NSLs were used to collect records '[...] of every hotel guest, everyone who rented a car or truck, every lease on a storage space, and every airplane passenger who landed in [Las Vegas]' for a two week period, in response to a terrorism threat in 2003. Those records, apparently, will be kept forever by the federal government. There's an ombudsman, and a procedure to resolve complaints, but the mere existence of an NSL is secret, so it's not clear how anyone can complain!

Besides, Roe v Wade is only half of it. It's that bit about Israel ruling the Middle East before Armageddon and the Second Coming that really drives these nutjobs. Israel just loves that since THEY know there's no such thing as a Second Coming - since Jesus was never crucified - and was a Jew in the first place - so they get to use the US to take over all the oil.

Your post-9/11 list is, well, mostly not post-9/11. Of the six events you listed, two were 9/11 itself. Of the remaining four, one was stopped. The remaining three were simply domestic crime.
Face it, your position has some ground to stand on -- but it can't be justified by increased danger. The facts don't support it. American soil is safer than ever. And whenever a terrorist travels to Iraq and gets swiss cheesed by one of our boys, it is even safer.
Roe vs. Wade does pretty much legalize murder, so one could make an argument that.... oh, nevermind, this is slashleft....
People pin way too much on 9/11. Indeed, all of these trends were in place before the attack.
Anyway, aside from our President, George III, pursuing a war on Iraq like his own personal white whale and dragging his entire crew^W administration^W country with him, it is easy to pin way too much blame on this administration. As one small example, the practice of extraordinary rendition began under President Clinton. Things might have been slightly better had Gore or Kerry won, but in the end, I think that most of this would have happened anyway. It is bigger than the presidency (has a lot to do with national security/military professionals).

I don't know another way to say this but if you don't like something about the USA just don't come, or leave. No one is stopping you, if you live here and you don't like it please by all means leave it's a free country. If you have a problem with record low unemployment( EVEN AFTER ALL THE HURRICANES), High wages, a growing economy(cough cough sorry Europe), and the possibility to do almost what ever you want to do with your life then your nuts. There are reasons why the USA is the most powerful nation in the world, none of which i saw posed in this thread. So if you don't like shit here Dont Come Get Out.
