Sun Announces Support for PostgreSQL

From the article: 'Today Sun announced that it will be integrating the Postgres open source data base into the Solaris 10 OS and providing world-wide 24x7 support for customers who wish to develop and deploy open source database solutions into their enterprise environments. Sun is working with the PostgresSQL community to take advantage of the advanced technologies in the Solaris 10 OS, such as Predictive Self-Healing, Solaris Containers and Solaris Dynamic Tracing (DTrace).'"

    As long as you're using supported hardware, don't want the full sourcecode and don't mind being tied into Sun's silly license? In other words, it still makes more sense to be running linux. Sun should really ditch their OS, it's a waste of their resources and every body elses time.

    The easiest way to install s/w on Solaris/OpenSolaris is using blastwave (www.blastwave.org) - for example, installing the entire KDE stack is done by :-

    pkg-get -i kde

    Simple enough? :-)
