Xbox 360 Launches In U.S.

Well, it's here. Braving long lines and launch parties, and even jail time, those that were willing to pony up the time and money have their hands on the first player in the next-gen war. 360 impressions are available all across the web, with [H]ardOCP and Gamespot offering exhaustive experiences for the interested gamer. The BBC, as always, offers a bigger perspective on the launch, and Gamasutra confirms that Microsoft is in for the long haul in the games industry. From the BBC: "Sony and Nintendo are planning to unleash their next gen consoles during 2006, giving Microsoft an edge over its rivals. The software giant is virtually tied with Nintendo for second place, way behind Sony, in a games market worth $25 billion globally. Microsoft has ambitious plans for its new machine. It said it expects to ship up to three million 360s worldwide within 90 days. But the company has admitted that the worldwide launch of the console could mean shortages in the run-up to Christmas. The console is due to hit Europe on 2 December and Japan on 10 December and some retailers are also warning about limited supplies."

So is games.slashdot.com going to shut down, now?
Without Xbox2 news, the page will be barren until the Xbox3 hype begins... in a few weeks.

    Nevermind.

I believe the apt onomatopoeia for this situation is "woosh."

The post you are responding to is a good example of the need for a "sarcasm" tag around here. No matter how obvious your ironic humor is, there's always a few people who will reply before realizing the intention of your remarks.

I do all the same things with MythTV, and that's its "intended purpose". Only I didn't have to buy any MS gaming boxes or $400 worth of MS software to do it, and I control exactly how it works. It's *mine* from source code to hardware. But hey, OTOH, a lot of people like Tivo, too. ;)

I guess everyone is supposed to follow all aspects of every console at all times so that everyone that ever reads that post would know for sure that it was not intended to be taken seriously. Ass

Oh, come on! The guy was posting that the ability to play the likes of SuperMario Brothers and Bad Street Brawler was all gamers in their 20s and 30s need to be choose the Revolution over the PS3 or the new X-Box. Read his post again, the whole thing is hilarious!

So, who else saw the Red Bull Mini Cooper? I spotted one and received some free cans in Springfield, IL at Best Buy. Anywhere else?
