No HD-DVD For 360 In The Near Future

While IGN originally reported that the 360 would see a HD-DVD update in 2006, they quickly released a response from Microsoft saying that as of the moment there are no plans for such an update. From the article: "Microsoft, in both America and Japan, has not announced anything regarding the possibility of a next generation DVD drive being placed in the Xbox 360 ... There are currently no plans to release an Xbox 360 equipped with a next generation DVD player."

Want to know why the Xbox and 360 can't get anything but x86 computer games and Sony handmedowns?

The entire Xbox project has been and is run by idiots.

Yes there are a wide range of other factors in the marketplace failure of the first Xbox and the seemingly impending doom of the 360. Manufacturing problems, poor developer support and tools, and so on with Microsoft and the Xbox.

Although this is just one of so many PR blunders from the Xbox team, it illustrates very well just why if you are a console dev house or publisher you would be crazy to let your valuable IP anywhere near the disaster that is the Xbox.

With a 'reorg' just a few weeks after the 360 release, it appears Microsoft themselves know what a bunch of incompetent personnel is running things in the entertainment division.
