Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVDs

Press the Buttons has word that, finally, a DVD Edition of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show will be available in March. From the article: "While the show-within-a-show The Legend of Zelda saw release at the end of 2005, now the company has announced definitive details regarding the animated Mushroom Kingdom adventures. Twenty-four episodes of the show will be released in a four-disc set on March 28, 2006 and will include the bizarre live action segments featuring Captain Lou Albano as Mario and Danny Wells as Luigi."

I can purchase another part of my childhood.

Now all that's missing is Video Power and Captain N.

Captain N was the greatest advertisement ever. It made even the crappy games look cool, fun and life fulfilling. Plus, who wouldn't want a controller for a belt buckle and a zapper as a sidearm? And yes, I do know I can get the buckle, but my classical shape (i.e. round) limits the comfort such buckles would impart.

Er, you must have watched a different Captain N. The one that I remember watching, if someone else had it on and I was forced to observe through the thin slivers of light that made it through the fingers covering my eyes, was awful.

Not that the Super Mario Bros. cartoons were any different of course. And the Zelda cartoon was also pretty bad.

Actually, the only good video game cartoon I can remember was Earthworm Jim, which was actually quite brilliant in places.

I recommend you don't get it then. This is only going to be good for nostalgic reasons. The show itself was a typical crappy 80's cartoon with pathetic live-action segments.

Now please excuse me while I head over to Amazon to pre-order it.

I REALLY hope this is going to have the original 80's pop music track, not the re-done version. I'm not holding my breath though, because I bet it's a legal nightmare to get rights for most of those old songs.

I think Cyndi Lauper (who also appeared in the live-action segments sometimes) is divorced from Captain Lou now, so I'm betting none of her songs would be on it... (I don't remember if they ever were, but since they were married at the time I assume they were.)

I think my favorite mario cartoon was the Super Mario 3 cartoons they had on saturday mornings on like NBC or whatever. I think it was somehow related to the Captain N series. Anyways i have fond memories of waking up and watching those episodes in the winter of 1992 or therabouts. It's for that reason that I shun the current mario's italian accent (he was from brooklyn, obvs) and the princess's name is Toadstool not Peach.

I miss the 90's sooooo much.
