Comparing Xbox Launches

IGN is running a piece taking a look at the launch of the Xbox 360, and comparing it to the launch of the original Xbox. From the article: "What we now have is some good old fashioned perspective, and since Sony's PlayStation 3 has yet to launch, what better system to compare the Xbox 360 to than its little brother, the Xbox. Our focus will be the launch of each Microsoft system. Specifically, we'll be answering these questions: How do the games that launched with the Xbox and Xbox 360 compare? What were the big issues surrounding each launch? What worked, what didn't? And which launch was ultimately better?"

Well, I have a xbox 360, but hell yes I also have a SLI 7800GTX AMD dual core 4400 with 4 gig ram etc and multiple other machines. So like a hell of a lot of other people, Im not buying a 360 as the ONLY electronic gamezs medium in my house.
    I bought it because
The media centre idea appeals - streaming videos off my harddrive, playing my MP3 collection through my new HDTV, having the whole house connected. That it plays very good quality games (Kameo is a dream to lay /nod Rare) is just another benefit.
Sony will release the PS3 late, have a staggard launch just like the PSP where it takes a year to hit the UK shelves. Do I want to wait an entire year for a new console that is 1+ years older than the last big console but roughly the spec spec. Hmmm I guess not.
Blue-ray? Does anyone seriously think in 5 / 10 years people will be still popping down to the local HMV to buy a disk? No... the future is streaming and online. And from all accounts Blue-ray is still geared towards disks as thats where they - sony will make their money.
The launch titles for the xbox 360 are well done and fun to play - especially has top software houses like rare have been involved. The graphics are comparable to my top of the range PC, and they havent even puished the console yet.
So, yes 360 will be around.
Sony (oh yes I will prolly buy a PS3) are being talked about in a hell of a lot of circles - how they have 'lost the plot'. PSP game launch was so weak and oh my god 1 year staggard launch WTF. Sony completely missed the boat on the MP3 and LCD market. Someone up top should be fired. So considering the last 3 major screwups by sony (have you even played with their walkman.. its terrible... and ugly) the chances of a decent workign PS3 launch is slim to say the least
