God Mode

1up has an interesting look at the curious place where religious beliefs and gaming habits intersect. From the article: "'We view games as just games,' says Kendrick Kenerly, founder of +CGO+, Christian Gamers Online. 'They all boil down to a few things: They have a goal, they have a reward for the goal, and they have a set of rules that need to be followed to reach the goal. The violence in most games isn't something we get worked up about. It's merely presentation, simply a way to convey an experience to players so they can follow the rules to reach the goal.' Abstract games like checkers, chess, and Monopoly operate in the same fashion, Kenerly argues-they merely employ different presentation methods."

A christian that can recognize that games are purely fictional and by playing them will not skew his beliefs? I have met christian gamers online that won't play anything with magic (its another religion when there is only ONE religion), aliens (we are gods only children, duh), or violence of any sort. These guys on the other hand seem like they are actually willing and able to think for themselves which seems to be rare among people of faith. Admittedly they do have limits to what they will play (RTFA) but at least they give stuff a chance instead of denying it outright.

Anytime someone posts something about Christianity on Slashdot, it is an attempt to reassure themselves of their fuzzy religion. Slashdotters support each other's happy fuzzy religion by saying things like "creationists r teh suxors!!1!" or the occasional idiot who thinks he can please everyone and say, "I believe in both things!" and somehow mash Christianity and other ideas together.

Then you have the one rare guy who says, "Creationism can and I believe did happen." And that statement is obviously against the fuzzy religion, so it's (-1 Flaimbait) for putting doubts into the collective's minds.

So why don't you take your religion off of this tech site since it is irrelevent. The same nonproductive discussion happens every time. The majority of slashdotters, including and especially evolutionists (Just got me -1 non-collective thinking), are indeed closed minded and thus no relevent discussion can take place. If you all want to reassure yourselves on your fuzzy happy religion (Whatever goes) then do it somewhere else.
