New iMac disassembled
wild_berry writes "Found, via Ars Technica's Apple journal, Infinite Loop, a Japanese site disassembling Intel Core Duo iMac. Clint, from the Ars blog, points out that the Core Duo processor is socket-mounted, allowing for possible upgrades, unlike the IBM chips which were soldered to the PCB's. Apple has moved on from the "Think Different" to the "We Just Don't Give A Shit Anymore" phase in the company's history.
The only reason to buy one of these Intel Macs is as something to sell on eBay a couple years from now as a novelty item. The number of people out there willing to pay the Apple tax on x86 hardware just for the 'privilege' of running OS X is tiny.
Apple should cut to the chase and just can the computer hardware and move on to where they are inevitably heading - trying to bundle OS X on x86 OEM systems.
Or just can it all and go with the booming iPod/iTMS stuff.
