Slashdot Mirror

Got a Question for Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales?

We did our first Slashdot interview with Jimmy Wales back in 2001. We did another one in 2004. In 2005 we ran a feature article about Wikipedia's history. Now Wikipedia is in the news again, so this seems like a perfect time to make Jimmy Wales our first Slashdot Interview "three-peater." Ask whatever you like. Expect answers to 10 or 12 of the highest-moderated questions by next week.

When will Wikipedia acknowledge that George W. Bush is President of Al-Qaeda?

The Bush administration exports Weapons of Mass Destructio (the world's largest exporter) ; interferes in democratic country democracies ( Venezuela, Bolivia, Iraq); and supports nuclear proliferation (Israel and Pakistan).

Give it up. You're part of the new generation of moon hoaxers who are some of the most annoying, blindingly ignorant and uneducated people ever.

Actually, I am ignorant. That's why I'm asking questions. I am curious as to the true nature of many fantastic events. Those questions are considered unpatriotic, "uneducated" and "annoying," but I don't care. I want to know the truth, and I will keep asking questions until I know it.

Since you're obviously so smart, perhaps you can help me. Please answer me this: Why did WTC Building 7 collapse? It was not hit by an airplane and it had only small fires. Larry Silverstein, lease-holder for the whole WTC complex, said on PBS that they decided to "pull" the building. Can you please explain how they managed to arrange a controlled demolition while it was still on fire, on 9/11.

Please let me know. I am really curious.

James 'Jimmy 'Jimbo'' Wales, O Great Entreprenur of the Porno-Web, I would like to know how you reconcile your belief in the Individualism of Ayn 'Alissa' 'Rosenbaum' Rand with the unhappy history surrounding the founding of your web-site. For, certainly, Rand would not deny the originator of an idea the right to reconginition and benefits from that idea. As to the thought that one working under the direction of another forfeits all rights to the mention and acknowledgment of his contribution, ye gawds! Such an idea would positively endorse the systematic subjection of man to superiors, removing individual rights, removing individual responsability, removing the very concept of the individual and replacing it with a communal-institutional concept of subbordonation!! As you can plainly see, this confuses and concerns me. What do you say: Have you given up Objectivism, or have you reconciled your behavior towards Larry Sanger's insturmental role in Wikipedia with Rand's thought?

PS - I do not mean to say you have had no part in Wikipedia; certainly, your contribution was very, very important. Just like you.
