Yahoo Considers Offering Prizes to Search Users

Bemmu writes "According to the San Francisco Chronicle: 'Yahoo Inc. is considering offering free music downloads, discounts on DVD rentals and frequent-flier miles to users who make the Web site their primary search engine.'" More from the article: "Offering rewards to search engine users isn't new. During the dot-com boom in the late 1990s, a number of companies including AllAdvantage.com and MyPoints.com gave cash, prizes and loyalty points to users, although many of the companies eventually went out of business or were sold at fire sale prices. That's not to say the model never works. One exception is iWon.com, a Web portal that offers cash prizes for using the site. After some success during the boom, iWon is now owned by Ask Jeeves and its parent company IAC/InterActiveCorp. " Update: 02/12 21:07 GMT by Z : Headline changed for accuracy.

No you weren't; all those folks that posted before you were. If you're going to get the "FRIST PSOT", at least try to be sure you're fast enough to have the frist psot.

Oh, and I don't have an account with /. but I read it enough to know that only certain people are allotted a certain number of mod points... who bothers wasting them on the guys with the frist psot every time? It doesn't seem like it does much good... as a matter of fact, if negative points hurt accounts in some way, why are they always wasted on people who aren't using their accounts? Shouldn't these points be saved for account holders who post off-topic to be punished instead of wasted on people who aren't effected? (by the way, go ahead and waste the points on me. I realize I'm not saying anything at all about yahoo or the spin of the articles, and therefore I deserve to be a target for negative moderation. I have no problems with this. I also don't have an account, I just read the news and on occasion post anonymously, so all the negative points in the world aren't really going to hurt my feelings, even if I didn't think I deserved them. And I do. Especially this time.)
