LCD Color Corrector?

colorContrast asks: " I've currently got a Viewsonic VG700b, and as of recent, it has been giving me some trouble. Instead of showing real black, i'm now getting a red hue for black, and the pixels on the screen have become more pronounced than they used to be. The odd thing is that when I brought my monitor home over vacation, the problem was fixed for a short while, but now it appears to be broken again. Does anyone have any suggestions on if its time to get a new LCD, or if they know of a fix for this problem? (I have attempted to manually correct it by changing the colors but that did little.)"

Flamebait is indeed harsh. It should have been modded off-topic, since it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Of course, since both mods have the same overall effect, I think flamebait is actually fair, and you're just a whiner.

Drift of setup points is typical for every vacuum tube device. For top quality operation they require recalibration at least once a year. You can do it by yourselve or ask somebody who is knowlegable in this matter or send it back for servicing by manufacturer etc.
There is no way you can compensate this from outside by software or hardware (video card etc.)
IF U wanna try it by your own and do really perfect recalibration, the points U have to cover will be as follows:
    - check of CRT voltages (mostly cathode and screens)
    - colour purity (if grey background have tinted spots etc)
    - beams convergence (instead of thin white line U see one or all base RGB beams)
    - static color balance (your case - tinted glow of base color black grey white)
    - dynamic color balance

PIL and mostly Delta CRTs are demanding pieces of hardware but up to now THERE IS NO OTHER technology incl plasma that can match their dynamic range and color accuracy.
So before you waste your money for another mediocre LCD think twice as it will still be far under quality of 5$ Thriftstore 21" CRT (after proper recalibration).

Use one of free monitor test patterns software to display it before U start fiddling with potentiometers and warm it up at least for 30 min. before any calibrations. Do it on exactly same place where you operate your monitor as earth and power lines magnetic fields affect your electron beams!.

In case U wanna try it let me know - I can give U a hand in real time over ICQ etc.

    Have luck!
