Toronto to Become One Huge Hotspot

8127972 writes "The Toronto Star is reporting that Toronto Hydro is about to announce plans to make all of Toronto Canada a huge wireless hotspot. The project could go live as early as this fall and hopes to bring low cost Internet access to millions of Toronto citizens. In the process it will challenge the Canadian telcos for a share of the $8 billion (CDN) a year wireless market."

    I thought there are tons of slashbots saying they would move from the USA to Canada after Bush won the last two Presidential elections, the Patriot Act passed, the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq happened.

    They should all be enjoying that wonderful free Canadian Wi-fi and health care now.

    What's that? Nobody actually went anywhere?? What a shock.

    $8 bln CDN /yr wireless market? I live in Canada and there aren't any public wireless providers that I've heard of...

    Not surprising, given how small they are. Eight billion Canadian is still like a buck-fifty, right?
