It's Official Dell Acquired Alienware
robyn217 writes "Dell just confirmed today that it had acquired boutique PC vendor Alienware. Alienware's Nelson Gonzalez said that his company will continue on with its own brand, design, sales and marketing, and support, though, so Alienware isn't going anywhere just yet. Gonzalez also said that Alienware PCs would not carry a Dell logo, and that he would report directly to Jim Schneider, Dell's chief financial officer. "I think that you'll find it very hard to find the Dell name on the [Alienware] web site," he said." The rumor is now fact.
It's Official slashdot don't check headline for grammar
I built my own ferarri with my own two bare hands, it looks just as cool as I wanted it to and for the price compared to what I would've payed Alienware I've got 2x more RAM and 2x more HD space. Screw brand names. Only trust your own handy work. If you don't know what your doing, learn or find a close trusted friend/family member to help you put together a pc. You can save a TON if you shop around and buy the individual components. I saved over $700 on what I got last year in my AMD 64 3200 and thats compared to DELL!
Excepting all but the last, I see no reason why a Ferrari shouldn't be efficient, reliable and long lasting, if it were treated right. Also, if you take efficiency to mean horsepower per displacement (like any other metric matters) then a Ferrari does indeed do very well there, too. Most other cars use more fuel to produce the horsepower a Ferrari does, thanks to higher compression.

You know, I simply cannot understand why shitty posts such as this get modded up.
Opinions, stated as fact, backed by bad analogies... this is considerered "Insightful" on Slashdot these days.
Let's look at this post, shall we?
"Y'know, "durable" isn't a word one applies to anything top-of-the-line. It's almost not even a design consideration."
Opinion, stated as fact, with no supporting argument.
"A durable car can be driven after a serious accident. A durable car puts up with no maintenance for 20,000 miles. A durable car can be fixed by someone with less than $500 worth of tools."
Bad analogy - computers aren't cars. Besides, I can fix a non-durable computer with a single screwdriver.
""Durable" isn't Alienware's value-argument, and it isn't Ferarri's, either."
Despite the grammar error, this is a true statement, as far as it goes, which isn't very far.
"(Although, really, it's a laughable comparison. Alienware doesn't build Ferarri's; they build pre-pimped rice burners.)"
While it's admirable that the poster was consistent in his grammar error, this is simply stupid: The implication is that someone that owns a Ferrari built it themselves, or in other words: Someone that builds their own computer is superior to someone that buys it pre-built from Alienware. Again, opinion, without any supporting argument.
Yet, shit like this gets modded up here on Slashdot all the time.
Amazing, isn't it?
aliens get abducted?
