Revolution Horsepower Revealed

Revo writes "IGN.com unveiled leaked specs for Nintendo's upcoming Revolution console today. The system really is about twice as powerful as a GameCube and a far cry from the Xbox 360 and PS3. Of course, the focus is on the innovative controller and the affordable price."

The more I read about this "innovative" controller the more I think it's going to be a failure, at least in the US and Europe where people don't jump on every new little gadget like it's the best thing since sliced ham. They will eventually release (perhaps even alongside the console's launch) a standard-shaped controller, and hopefully one that's better than the Gamecube's.

There's a reason that console controllers have evolved into their current form, and that's because they are ergonomic and comfortable. The Xbox Controller-S and the Xbox 360 controllers are both very comfortable and allow you to play for hours on end without cramping up or getting sore hands. I also think the idea of motion sensing games will get old real quick for anything longer than a 20 minute gaming session. I don't want to be moving my arm all over the place for hours just to get Zelda to swing his bloody sword.

They should have taken a lesson from Sega. At least the Dreamcast was revolutionary (no pun intended) when it came out. If Sega had released the Saturn (inferior to the competion, Playstation) at the time they released the Dreamcast, their situation would have been analagous to what Nintendo is doing with the Revolution, except for the controller gimmick.

All this hoopla for the controller sounds just like what they did with the Nintendo 64 and it's "revolutionary" controller that nobody liked. If anybody had liked it, they would have used the N64 controller on the Gamecube instead of the "similar to Playstation" controller.

It is amazing how Nintendo acts more like an egotisical teenager than a corporation with their "trying to save face" above all. Back when they were STILL using cartridges with the N64 (huge mistake that set them back an order of magnitude in the marketplace) they just trashed the PSone and Saturn for using "slow" optical disc storage. Then they quietly switch to optical discs for Gamecube but use the stupid little ones as a gimmick to pretend to be different. They switch the controller from the huge ugly N64 to a Playstation copy but switch the buttons around to pretend to be different.

All we are going to get on the new Nintendo machine is the same thing we have gotten since Super Nintendo..... A Mario game, A Mario Kart game, a Starfox game, a Metriod game, Mario sport games.... They just keep selling the same worn out franchises over and over on each system.

Who wants to play Pilotwings again on a new system? Who wouldn't rather play Halo or God of War?

If they had canned the console market altogether, people would have been playing Mario on Playstations and Xbox. How many more copies of "Mario" would they have sold? A lot more people play "Sonic" now that they don't have to buy a Sega console to do it.
