Paul Allen's Microsoft Experience

theodp writes "Just in case Microsoft bashers don't have enough ammo, Robert X. Cringely has a couple of interesting tales in this week's column. The first explains how Bill Gates used Paul Allen's moonlighting at MITS to justify awarding himself 64% of Microsoft's stock vs. Allen's 36% (and Gates' failure to adjust the shares after he accepted a $10/hour part-time MITS job). The second heart-warming tale concerns a conversation Allen reportedly overheard late one night (as he was finishing up DOS 2.0) between Gates and Steve Ballmer discussing how to get Allen's Microsoft stock back if the Hodgkins disease Allen was battling killed him. Yikes."

This is how you get to be a successful buisiness man. If you thought it was
my-little-pony land, then get a clue.

Just steal, lie and cheat your way to as much money as possible, and if
you are very very lucky maybe you get to be knighted by the Queen of England.

    I believe it's pronounced 'Capitalism'.

Does this article really need to be here? I mean, come on. Is it enough for this forum to be against Gates and/or Microsoft on the merits of technology or business practices, without stooping to assist the author in trashing Gates based on nothing but his opinions or unnamed messengers?

I think you trivialize Slashdot with this article, as this place becomes less a place for technical news and more of a landing zone for the Hate-Microsoft crowd.

This stuff does not advance the cause of OSS, or cause one more person to consider switching from Windows to Linux, but what it does do is make people question what this site is all about.
