Their argument is essentially that they shouldn't be penalized for becoming successful in a marketplace." Sure. That's why SMB is so appallingly documented that the only way to re-implement it is by packet sniffing Windows clients. And why their Kerberos implementation was deliberately incompatible with everyone elses, and with the incompatibility protected as a trade secret.
